Birds of Salento
If you are interested in birdwatching or just starting out, our Salento birdlife tour is perfect for you. It provides an introduction to the diverse bird species present in the town and takes you to some of the best birdwatching areas where you can observe them. Additionally, our expert guides will accompany you throughout the tour and answer any questions you may have about the fascinating world of birds.
The striking bird species like tanagers, toucanets, parrots and hummingbirds are even more vibrant and colourful than Salento’s iconic streets and traditional plantations filled with coffee trees and tropical fruits. While other species like the famous Andean Motmot (Momotus aequatorialis) and Sparkling Violetear (Colibri coruscans) can be a little more difficult to spot in the surrounding lush cloud forests, towering wax palms and majestic snow-capped mountains.

Ivan created a fantastic birding experience for us. His knowledge of native species of both birds and plants alike made our morning outing with him unmatched by other tours. The fact that he also speaks English helped us gain a greater understanding of our surrounding environment. He worked hard to provide a unique experience for us and helped us located the very shy Andean Solitaire. This tour is made even better knowing that he also does research on endangered species of birds and map ranges. It’s so nice to know that our tourist dollars help support research and preservation. Thanks for am amazing trip!!
Ivan took us birding in Salento about a week ago. He was a great guide! So helpful that he spoke English and his knowledge of birds was impressive. We got to see over 30 species on our 3-hour tour. He would even quiz us on species that we had seen previously to help us remember… I am just getting back into birding and this really helped make things stick. Would highly recommend Avistando Aves Andinas.
