Birds And
Permaculture
Tour

Submerge yourself in the fascinating world of permaculture!

The Birds and Permaculture tour is a chance to see San Agustín’s birdlife and get a fascinating insight into how sustainable living can support it.

Permaculture – the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient – has been a key strategy to protect and conserve bird habitats, just as with other types of flora and fauna.

The Viracocha foundation has been working towards social, environmental and economic development in San Agustín for 15 years. Their 9 hectares of land just outside of town has been converted from a conventional coffee farm to an education, permaculture and agroecology centre which now includes more than 70 crop varieties and more than 4 hectares of reforested land.

When you visit the centre not only can you explore the trails through the property which are now filled with a large variety of local bird species. You can also learn about the different sustainable projects, see the environmentally friendly infrastructure and experience the organic and sustainable farm-to-fork process with a delicious plant-based meal.
