Respira Macizo is a community-run nature reserve reaching high into the mountains outside of San Agustín. We’ll make the steep climb up through the reserve to observe high mountain bird species with the chance to see the rare Black-and-chestnut Eagle close to its nest.

This tour starts and finishes in San Agustín, Huila. Your guide can meet you at your hotel or a meeting place of your choosing.
The most common way to get to San Agustín is to travel to Neiva (by plane or bus) or Pitalito (bus) from where you can take a local bus or transport service to San Agustín (about 1 hour from Pitalito or 4.5 hours from Neiva). If arriving by public transport we recommend arriving in San Agustín by at least the evening before the tour to ensure arrival before the early start time.

How fit or skilled do I need to be?
The Black-and-Chestnut Eagle route is suitable for a range of birdwatching abilities and skill-levels, but it includes a steep 1km climb up the mountain and the steep climb back down. You do need to be relatively fit in order complete the hike comfortably. If you are a beginner to birdwatching our guides will be on hand to help you make the most of it.
What’s the weather like?
The weather in San Agustín is generally mild with an average temperature of around 20ºC, it can be changeable however so we recommend preparing for both sun and rain.
